Helps to get you through!

If we think about it, anxiety is EVERYWHERE. It could be the root cause, the feeling in the middle, or the result at the end. It really does not matter what its position, we will help you shift it!

Anxiety

Anxiety is described by the NHS as, “a feeling of stress, panic or fear that can affect your everyday life physically and psychologically.”

A little anxiety is good, and it often serves the purpose of keeping us safe, such as in the ‘fight and flight’ response, where one remains extremely alert and aware.

Initially, the ‘fight and flight’ response was related to protecting oneself and often involved running away from danger, for example, a caveman running away from a sabre-toothed tiger.

It kicks in when people are in dangerous, stressful, and unfamiliar situations.

Humankind is not designed for the hectic, busy, and stressful lifestyles that most people have in society today, there are too many micro stressors, and as a result, more people have adverse reactions to stress and anxiety exposure.

Some people hide anxiety really well and they often do not want to talk about it, but it is everywhere, and most people experience it at some point in their lives, or many times throughout the day.

It is nothing to be ashamed of! Anxiety effects people very differently and impacts on people’s lives in many ways. Some people have lots of symptoms and some, not so many, but they all effect individuals both physically and psychologically.

Anxiety symptoms can be physical such as:

  • Rapid heart rate – one may even think that they are having a heart attack.

  • A fluttering feeling in the chest (caused by palpitations).

  • Blood pressure goes up.

  • Rapid breathing (hyperventilating).

  • Blood rushes away from the organs and into the muscles.

  • Nausea and sickness.

  • Headaches, neck ache, shoulder ache, back ache and other aches and pains.

  • Dry mouth.

  • Tight jaw and teeth grinding.

  • Needing to go to the toilet more, or less frequently.

  • Pins and needles.

  • Restlessness.

  • Sleeping problems.

  • Sweating and hot flushes.

  • Differences in one’s sex drive.

  • Panic attacks.

Anxiety symptoms can be psychological such as:

  • Feeling tense and nervous.

  • Constant worrying.

  • Unable to relax.

  • Not wanting to get out of bed or go to work.

  • Panic.

  • Irritability and feelings of anger.

  • Low mood and depression.

  • Not looking after yourself properly, as it all seems like too much effort.

  • Not wanting to go out and do the things that you normally love.

  • Feeling constantly on edge.

  • Thinking that nobody likes you, or that people are angry with you when they are not.

  • Difficulty concentrating.

  • Social withdrawal – even from one’s family.

  • Limited social skills.

  • Certain forms of OCD.

  • Not wanting to try new things or go to new places.

  • Feeling disconnected from yourself and/or the world.
